Carrizalillo Beach
Carrizalillo Beach
The Carrizalillo beach in Rinconada is simply beautiful! It is not as crowded as the other more known beaches to Mexican tourists in Puerto Escondido and is just one bay round from Puerto Angelito and Manzanilla. It is much liked and often used as a place to learn to surf.
Carrizalillo beach is also a great place to snorkle or swim or relax on the beach. Taxi drivers know where to drop you for the best/easiest access, but if you are driving, the best/closest car-park is accessed by driving down the dirt road next to Hostel Shalom and then follow the signs pointing to the right saying "a la playa". There are 180 steps down to the beach but the climb down to swim and relax is worth it.
Swimmers and kids of all ages will enjoy the calm waves along with those learning to surf. You can easily arrange for a surfing lesson or a ride on an inflatable banana or take a fishing boat trip to see the dolphins & turtles by contacting the guys who sit at the bottom of the stairs.
There are 6 palapas where you can eat and get drinks from and plenty of beach vendors will kindly offer their wares. Buy an all natural ice-cream from the Mexican man who sells handmade natural ice-cream out of the light blue container on his wheel barrow. Ensure too that you see a sunset at Carrizalillo beach as they are simply spectacular here.
A great place to stay is the Hotel Villas Carrizalillo in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca Mexico which is positioned at the top of the cliffs on the left side of the bay and also has a private stairs to access the beach.
